After an initial appraisal by one of our referral vets all of our MRIs are routinely interpreted by Dr Mike Targett, MA VetMB PhD DipECVN MRCVS or our visiting neurology specialist Kate Stalin BA VetMB DipECVN MRCVS, and an independent official report is made.
Areas of referral
Our experienced referral veterinarian can handle referral cases in the following areas:
- Brain diseases (tumours, cranial nerve disorders, meningitis) and investigation of seizures.
- Spinal disease (Intervertebral disc degeneration, Ischaemic myelopathy (aka: Fibrocartilaginous embolism, neoplasia)
- Middle/Inner ear disease
- Some musculoskeletal problems
- Congenital conditions such as syringohydromyelia in Cavalier King Charles spaniels and hydrocephalus in small breed dogs.
We have installed a permanent 1.5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner in April 2018. This greatly benefits our increasing number of neurology cases.
Our 1.5 Tesla Canon Vantage Elan MRI scanner produces exceptional quality images of the brain and spinal cord, for which it is commonly used. It provides superb detail and contrast in soft tissues and is very useful for joints and looking for foreign bodies.
