Veterinary Referrals
Moorview Vets accept small animal referrals in orthopaedic, soft tissue and spinal surgery. All cases will be assessed and surgery performed by Jonathan Deacon BVMS, CertSAS, MRCVS.
A referral consultation is for a minimum of 30 minutes, where we will carry out a detailed examination of your animal and review any history and x-rays sent by the referring vet, then discuss the problem in detail and the treatment options available.
In the majority of cases we will need to admit your pet for further investigation and x-rays, which is usually done on the same day. If surgery is necessary it may be done immediately, or arranged for a later date and most cases requiring surgery will stay with us overnight for observation. Many cases will be discharged the following day, while some will require longer stays (particularly spinal cases).

Post-operative Care
This is done in collaboration with the referring vet. Skin sutures are usually removed at 10 days by your own vet and we generally like to check cases back after 4-6 weeks to assess progress. Follow-up x-rays may be taken at this point. Animals with dressings or an external skeletal fixtator generally need more check-ups than this. All cases will be discharged with clear detailed post-operative care instruction sheets.
A formal written report will be sent to the referring vet on every occasion your animal is seen at Moorview Vets. Following completion of treatment further contact with Moorview Vets must strictly be through the referring veterinary practice.
