Jonathan Deacon BVM&S, CertSAS, MRCVS

After qualifying at Edinburgh's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2000, Jonathan's first post was with a mixed practice in Northumberland and, during the 3 years he spent there, he developed an interest in small animal surgery.


As a result of this passion, he moved on to a referral centre for small animals in West Yorkshire where he spent 5 years studying towards the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery which he attained in 2008.


In 2008 Jonathan decided to settle in Northumberland, with his wife Megan, daughter Kate, their collection of pets (amongst which number 5 rescued stray cats, 2 dogs and a 25 year old Hackney horse called Topper), leading him to found Moorview Vets.

Alison Kennair BVM&S, MRCVS

Alison qualified from Glasgow University in 1995 and has mostly worked in private small animal practice since, after initially starting in general mixed practice.


After a year off travelling the world she finally settled in Whitley Bay with her husband and two young boys and joined us at Moorview in 2010.


Alison likes all aspects of small animal work but her main interests are in surgery, imaging and ophthalmology. She is presently working towards a certificate in small animal soft tissue surgery.


Alison and her family have rescued Pebble, the lurcher from the SHAK charity, and a cat called Eddie.

Emily Renton BVM&S, MRCVS

Emily qualified from Edinburgh's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies in 2002.


She started her professional career in Shropshire in a mixed practice and then moved to Northumberland to work in a large mixed practice until she came to work at Moorview to concentrate on her small animal medicine and surgery in 2011.


She enjoys all aspects of her first opinion work, spreading her time between our Newbiggin and Backworth surgeries.


It was in Northumberland that she met her husband David and now lives on their beef farm with their daughter Annabel, four terriers (including The Fonze) and two horses.

Sarah Harrison BVM&S, MRCVS

Sarah qualified from Glasgow Vet School in 1998.


She started her veterinary career in mixed practice in Nottinghamshire. She then decided to concentrate on small animal practice and moved to Derbyshire where she worked in a small animal referral centre and the PDSA.


Sarah has a very keen interest in ophthalmology which started when she saw practice in Cape Town whilst studying for her degree. She is presently enrolled in the veterinary ophthalmology certificate and will be sitting her exams in 2012.


When Sarah is not studying for her certificate she is busy looking after her 3 young children and 2 rescue cats

Sean Henney BVM&S, CertSAD, MRCVS

Sean graduated from Edinburgh Royal (Dick) School Of Veterinary Studies in 1983. He went into a mixed, mainly companion animal, practice in the south west and passed the Certificate in Small Animal Dermatology in 1988.


Since then, he has run a dermatology referral service, initially for his own practice in Wiltshire.

He was Principal and internist at Stone Lion Veterinary Centre, a multi-disciplinary referral centre in the Southwest of London for 4 years and then went back to practice ownership. After trying to retire to Scotland he then went to a large practice in West Yorkshire to see dermatology referrals, both in-house and from client practices. Sean stayed there for 3 years, until the lure of a job in Kuwait took him away.


Since returning he has locumed at many practices and has been seeing dermatology cases at Moorview since May 2009. He is now working for us 3 days a week, heading our dermatology referral work and first opinion cases.


His main clinical interests are hypersensitivity, including allergy and auto-immunity, and endocrine diseases. He has also recently set up a dermatology referral clinic in Jersey.

Sophie Acton BVM&S CertSAM CertIVUS Cert GP Cardiology MRCVS

Sophie has lived in the North east for most of her life, and has worked in the area since qualifying from Edinburgh in 1998. She has worked in several local practices before undertaking an internal medicine position at Sheriffs Highway Veterinary Hospital in 2002.


During her time there she developed an experience in medical procedures and a particular interest in imaging. Sophie successfully completed her RCVS Certificate in small animal medicine in 2004 and went on to set up a mobile ultrasound service for local practices in 2006. She completed the international veterinary ultrasound society certificate in small animal ultrasound in 2009.


In addition to her mobile ultrasound service she now takes medical referrals including endoscopy and MRI at Moorview vets.

Antonio Moneva- Jordan DVM, CertVC, MRCVS

Antonio graduated from the University of Zaragoza (Spain) in 1990 after spending 2 years at Glasgow veterinary School with a scholarship from the European Erasmus programme.


After 5 years at Ayres Veterinary Hospital he gained the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Cardiology with the best marks prize in 1996, He subsequently enjoyed a Residency in Cardiopulmonary Medicine and a period as Temporary Lecturer in Cardiology an the University of Edinburgh.


Antonio is a recognised member of the Heart Testing Panel for auscultation of the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society. He is also a regular CPD speaker for Improve International.


He currently works as a cardiology consultant in the North East and West of Yorkshire and has many years of experience in referral cardiology at both university and private practice.


Antonio's main interests are all aspects of cardiopulmonary medicine, in particular congenital heart disease.

Kelly Hewison, Practice Manager, RVN

Kelly began her career in animal medicine in 2000 and is an experienced veterinary nurse from the North Tyneside area, having qualified in 2004.


Working in a number of local practices, Kelly has developed a keen interest in preventative animal healthcare. Kelly is also now doing a lot of the practice management side and is thourghly enjoying it. Kelly is also a Petplan Insurance Advisor.


Kelly owns a horse called Mambo who can be very naughty at times, a tortoise, 2 ferrets and 2 lurchers.

Fay Cavanagh

Fay is a local girl from the Newcastle area and has worked for a number of practices in North Tyneside before joining the team at Moorview Vets as a trainee veterinary nurse in September 2008.


Fay has nearly completed her veterinary nurse training and will be qualifying in the next year. Fay particularly enjoys medical nursing care.


Fay owns 2 very loving but cheeky ferrets, 2 cats and some fish.

Theresa Sleight

Theresa Sleight joined us in November 2009. Theresa is originally from Manchester but moved to the North East to study at Newcastle University and obtained a 2:1 in Ancient History and Archaeology. It was during her extensive work at dog kennels and catteries that she realised she wanted to persue a career in veterinary nursing.


Theresa has begun her formal training in veterinary nursing and is looking forward to becoming a qualified veterinary nurse. Her clinical interests include intensive care and nutrition.


Theresa owns a cat called Oscar and 2 guinea pigs Ollie and Dougal.

Kerry Warren

Kerry Warren joined us in February 2009 as a Trainee veterinary nurse. She has now started her formal training to gain her qualification in veterinary nursing and is at the end of her first year of training.


Kerry is a self confessed computer nerd and has a large input in dealing with all the technical equipment involved in our practice.


Kerry has a small menagerie at home including 3 cats and 2 bearded dragons.

Amy Williams RVN

Amy Williams began her nursing career in 2001 and qualified in January 2004. She has worked both first opinion and referral practices in the North East of England. Before joining Moorview she was lead nurse at a local practice for 4 years. Roles included helping to lead the surgical department.


Amy joined Moorview Vets in March 2011 as joint Head Theatre Nurse.


Amy owns a Terrier called Millie who is her pride and joy.

Victoria Edwards RVN

Victoria Edwards attended Newcastle University and achieved a 2:2 in Animal Science. She then studied at College of Animal Welfare and qualified in March 2007 in a practice near her home town of Whitby.


Vicky began her nursing career in 2001 and has since moved up to the North East to work in a large general practice before finding us here at Backworth and becoming joint Head Theatre Nurse. Vicky is also a Hill pet nutritional advisor and a Petplan Insurance advisor.


Vicky owns a cat called Charlie who likes to keep Vicky on her toes with his cheeky behaviour.

Sarah Jane Douglas

Sarah Jane Douglas joined us in March 2011 having started her veterinary nursing training with another practice in the North East.


Sarah Jane will become a qualified veterinary nurse in the next year after completing all of her exams. Sarah Jane has also completed a degree in zoology gaining a 2:1 BSc Hon degree.


Sarah Jane owns 4 cats all named after The Lord of the Rings characters.

Carol Brown

Carol Brown has very recently joined us in August 2011 after completing her Human Nursing Degree before deciding that animals were a much better option.


Carol owns 2 dogs called Scamp, who is a little xbreed, and Jesse, a border collie who she loves to walk and spend time with.

Sarah Brewis

Sarah Brewis began her veterinary career in 2003 after two years studying animal care at Kirkley Hall.


Sarah has worked as a receptionist in referral centres for 8 years before joining us in April 2010. She now heads our small team of insurance and reception staff.


Sarah has a pony called Flicker who is now a fluffy old lady and she also has a West Highland White terrier called Mac. Mac is determined to live forever as he is now a grand old age of 17. Sarah also rescued a cheeky cat called Riley who rules the roost in the Brewis household.

Jayne Robinson

Jayne Robinson began her career in the veterinary profession in 2002 as a trainee veterinary nurse in a local practice, but since moving to Germany, and having her beautiful daughter Neave, she has joined us as part of the insurance and reception team here at Moorview Vets in June 2011.
